Relaxing Sunday in cute Vermont

Church * Joseph Smith Birthplace * Sugarbush Farm * Woodstock

We were surprised to see that church was less than a 10-minute drive from our lakeside cottage. There are truly members of the church all over the globe. In fact, the ward was actually a decent size. We enjoyed talks from the senior missionaries from the Joseph Smith Birthplace visitors center - which was perfect because that was the first place we headed after returning from church and grabbing a bite to eat.

The Joseph Smith birthplace is in the middle of nowhere. The monument at the site was dedicated in 1905, 100 years after the prophet’s birth. At some point the church purchased a lot of the land around the area including where the parents of Lucy Mack Smith would have lived. The senior missionaries who had talked in church earlier that day were the same that gave our tour and helped us better understand Jospeh Smith and the miracles he saw in his life.

After the visitor's center, we headed towards Sugarbush Farm to check out some Vermont syrup and cheese making demonstrations. But first we had to stop and help a rather large turtle cross the road. He looked somewhat prehistoric with a long spiky tail. At Sugarbush farm we sampled several fresh cheeses and then walked through the syrup making barn and wandered the sugar bush grove to look at the sap gathering technics. Of course, we had to purchase some cute cheese and authentic Vermont maple syrup.

Before Stewart and Caitlyn headed back to Worcester we took a quick look at the cute town of Woodstock - everything about Vermont is so cute - homes, green hills, American flags, cute shops with unique foods, toys, clothing. Then we played a couple rounds of a card game that we have been hauling around all summer long.
