Celebrating in Washington DC

Museum of American History * A Capital Fourth Concert

Gratefully we did not have any delays at the airport today and gratefully we were on a short 3 1/2-hour non-stop flight to DC and gratefully we flew into Reagan International, and it literally took 15 minutes to get from the airport to drop Charlie and Sydney off at the Museum of American History. Caitlyn and Stewart had beat us by a day, so they were at the museum already enjoying their vacation. After checking in at the hotel, Lara went back into town to meet everyone on the lawn of the Capitol for the July 3rd dress rehearsal of the “Capitol Fourth” concert.

Going on July 3rd was such a great idea. There was a fraction of the number of people. We had excellent seats - albeit off to the side so it felt we had backstage passes. We could see the performers up close, and we could also see all their equipment and watch as it was moved around on the stage. The only bad part I would say is that the concert did not culminate in fireworks show like what is done on July 4th. But they did practice shooting off the cannons for the 1812 overture which was fun.

Robby Ferguson showed up and joined us for the evening which was fun. The concert had a bunch of cameos from talented, accomplished, and famous artists. We recognized most of the songs and artists. Several times we got up and danced and had a great time!

We had taken the metro into town not sure what to expect with traffic. As it turned out the traffic was not a big deal, and the metro wasn’t crowded at all.
