Honoring the great leaders of our country

Mount Vernon * Jefferson Memorial * MLK Memorial * FDR Memorial * Spy Museum

This morning we made the short drive out to Mount Vernon to visit the George Washington home and plantation. It doesn’t take much to get out of the city and feel like you’re far away on the banks of the Potomac. We enjoyed our tour of the home, especially admiring George Washington’s study. This home acted as a boarding home for family and friends and had guests nearly every night.

After the tour we enjoyed the grounds and the beautiful view of the Potomac. No wonder George Washington wanted to be buried here. It would be a beautiful resting spot. Combined with the drive and lunch at Mt. Vernon our visit took all morning. We had enough time to visit a few memorials before heading to the Spy Museum. Gratefully Lara could stay in the car so everyone else could have a quick in - out experience at the Jefferson, MLK, and FDR Memorials. It rained a bit which didn't help the already high humidity.

We finished off our sightseeing at the Spy Museum.  Honestly, it was a lot to take in.  There were fun interactive stations throughout the museum, but it was information overload.  It was best to just pick a few interesting points in each room and keep moving.
